How to Connect a Samsung Galaxy Watch to a New Phone Posted: 23 Nov 2020 09:10 AM PST Connecting a Samsung Galaxy smartwatch to a new phone can be a little annoying. Sadly, it's not as easy as simply tapping a "connect" button. We'll show you how to make the process as painless as possible. The process begins on your Samsung Galaxy Watch itself. First, press the "Power Button" to open the app gallery and then tap the "Settings" app (represented by a gear icon) from the list. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the "Settings" menu and tap "Connect to a New Phone." The next screen will ask you to back up your data. We highly recommend doing this to make the transition as smooth as possible. Tap "Back Up Data." This will launch the Galaxy Wearable app on your old phone and open the backup settings. Select "Back Up Data." After it's done "Preparing," you'll see a list of things you can back up. Select all the categories you'd like to save and then tap "Back Up." Tap "Done" when it's complete. Now go back to your watch and navigate to the "Connect to a New Phone" screen again. This time, tap "Continue." Everything on the device will be deleted. After the watch has finished resetting, it will reboot. We can now switch over to your new smartphone. Open the Galaxy Wearable app and select your device from the list. It will scan for your smartwatch nearby. Select your watch from the list when it appears. Next, tap the screen to connect to your watch, and tap "Pair" from the Wearable app. You'll see a "Finishing Pairing" animation on the Wearable app. It will say "Watch Paired" when complete. Tap "Agree" to continue. The next step is to link the appropriate plugin for your specific watch. Tap "OK" on the pop-up message to proceed. Select any of the options shown on this screen, or tap "Skip." If you made selections, tap "Next." You'll be asked to sign in to your Samsung account. You need to do this to access the backup we made earlier. Tap "Sign In." Follow the steps to enter your username and password. The app will now ask if you'd like to restore from a backup. Select "Check For Backup" and then tap "Next." Select all the things you want to restore and tap the "Restore" button. That's it! Your watch will now be restored to how it was with your old phone. There may be a few odds and ends to correct, but the majority of things will be how you left them. |
How to Add, Customize, and Use Widgets on Mac Posted: 23 Nov 2020 07:31 AM PST The customizable widgets that you know and love on the iPhone and iPad are also available on your Mac. Here's how to add, customize, and use the new widgets on your Mac running macOS Big Sur and higher. How to View Widgets on MacWidgets in macOS Big Sur and higher are a part of the Notification Center, which no longer has its own icon in the menu bar. To access the Notification Center and widgets, click on the time in the top-right corner of the screen. If you're using a Mac with a trackpad, a two-finger swipe-in gesture from the right edge of the trackpad will also open the Notification Center. The Notification Center is broken down into two halves. At the top, you'll see all your notifications (with a button to expand the Notification Center if you have more notifications), and in the bottom half, you'll see your widgets. You can scroll up to view all your widgets. Here, click a widget, or a part of a widget, to interact with it. How to Add New Widgets on MacBy default, macOS adds a couple of widgets to the Notification Center (like Calendar, Weather, and more). You can add more widgets from Apple and third-party apps to the Notification Center. To add more widgets, open the "Notification Center" and scroll down to the bottom of the list. Then, click the "Edit Widgets" button. Alternatively, you can right-click on any widget and choose the "Edit Widgets" button to get to the widget editing screen. You will now see a three-pane interface. The first pane shows a list of all the apps that support widgets. The middle pane shows previews of widgets. The last pane is, of course, your Notification Center. You can scroll in the middle pane to see a list of all widgets from all apps, or you can select an app to only show widgets from the particular app. The middle pane will show a live preview of the widget. Below the widget, you can switch between the Small, Medium, and Large sizes. After changing the size, simply click the widget (or click the "+" button in the top-left corner of the widget) to add it to the Notification Center. This will add the widget to the bottom of the widgets list. To add a widget to a particular place in Notification Center, drag and drop the widget where you want. Once you're done adding widgets, you can click the "Done" button from the bottom of the Notification Center, or you can click anywhere in the empty space on the screen to close the Notification Center. How to Rearrange Widgets on MacRearranging widgets in Notification Center on Mac is quite easy. Open the "Notification Center," find a widget, click, and drag it to pick it up. Then, move the cursor where you want to move it. Release the cursor to move it to the new place. This works when you're in the widget editing mode and when you're just viewing widgets in Notification Center. How to Customize a Widget on MacWidgets on Mac work in the same way as the widgets on iPhone and iPad. Once a widget is added, you can customize it to change the data, style, and more. RELATED: How to Customize Your iPhone Home Screen with Widgets and Icons If you're in the widget editing mode, simply click a widget to enter the customization mode. If you are viewing widgets in Notification Center, right-click a widget and choose the "Edit (Widget)" option (this option only shows up if the widget is customizable). Now, you'll be able to customize the widget to your liking. In this example, we will customize the Weather widget. Here, click the "Location" option. Then, search and add a different location. Once you're done, click the "Done" button. You'll now see the updated widget in the Notification Center. How to Change Size of an Existing Widget on MacAs we mentioned above, you can choose the size of the widget when you're adding it to the Notification Center. You can also change the size of the widget at any time from the Notification Center. To change the size of an existing widget, simply right click a widget. Here, choose the "Small," "Medium," or "Large" option from the "Size" section. The widget size will be updated instantly. How to Remove Widgets on MacThere are two ways to remove a widget from the Notification Center. To quickly remove a widget, open the "Notification Center," right-click a widget you want to remove, and select the "Remove Widget" option. Alternatively, you can scroll down to the bottom of the Notification Center, and choose the "Edit Widgets" button to enter the widget editing mode. Here, click the "-" icon from the top-left corner of a widget to remove it from the Notification Center. Just like the Mac, there's a lot you can do with the customizable widgets on your iPhone and iPad: |

How to Bring Back Photoshop’s Old Free Transform Controls Posted: 22 Nov 2020 10:22 AM PST Adobe recently changed how Free Transform works by default. It's thrown a lot of users for a loop, but you can get the old Free Transform behavior back. Here's how. How Free Transform Used to WorkFirst, a quick recap: Free Transform is the tool that enables you to resize and reshape any layer, shape, path, text, mask, object, or anything else. With an unlocked layer selected, you access it by going to Edit > Free Transform, or with the keyboard shortcut Control+T (Command+T on a Mac.) This brings up a box with eight handles that surrounds the layer or object. Here's how Free Transform used to work: To reshape or resize the object, you'd click-and-drag on one of the handles. You were then able to freely drag the handle anywhere you wanted and distort the object however you'd like. There were two important keyboard shortcuts: Alt (or Option on a Mac) and Shift. Holding "Alt" (or "Option") resized or reshaped the object around the reference point. In other words, dragging one handle would cause the opposite handle to move as well basically resizing the object in place. (You could also click and move the reference point to change where the center of transformation was). "Shift" locked the proportions of the transformation. Instead of reshaping, it limited you to just resizing. So,what's the situation now? Well, free transform is arguably simpler for new users: It works much the same but the proportions are locked by default and, instead, you hold down "Shift" to distort things. It's easier to get right the first time, but it's a total pain for anyone who has the Shift-to-lock keyboard shortcut firmly ingrained in their muscle memory. Also, by default, the reference point is now hidden. This means "Alt" (or "Option") only resizes around the center rather than where you placed the reference point. How to Restore Free Transform's Classic BehaviorThe good news is that bringing back Photoshop's old behavior is simple. To do so on Windows, click Edit > Preferences > General. On a Mac, click Photoshop > Preferences > General. Under Options, toggle "Use Legacy Free Transform" on. Now, pressing "Shift" will lock the transformation rather than unlock it. You can close the Preferences window. Also, to show the reference point when you have Free Transform active, click the little checkbox in the top left of the ribbon. You can then drag it around as before, or select one of the other points as the center of transformation.

How to Change a PowerPoint Show (PPSX) to a Work File (PPTX) Posted: 22 Nov 2020 08:42 AM PST PowerPoint files come in two formats: PPTX files are editable PowerPoint presentations and PPSX files are a view-only format intended for presentations. You can edit a PPSX file, but you must first convert it back to a PPTX format. Changing the File ExtensionBefore trying anything else, it's always worth seeing if you can just change the file extension. This works sometimes, although it depends on the version of Office you and your colleagues are using. To change the file extension, right-click the file and choose "Rename." Change the file extension (if it exists in the file name) from .ppsx to .pptx. Double-click the file to open as normal in PowerPoint. In our case, that didn't work. The file still opens as a PPSX presentation. So, we'll move on and try another way. Saving the File as a PPTXPowerPoint can convert a PPSX file to a PPTX one. Here's how. First, open "PowerPoint" and choose File > Open to find the file you want to edit. Go to File > Save As to save the file. From the drop-down menu at the top right, choose "PowerPoint Presentation (*.pptx)" to save the file as an editable file you can share with colleagues. Be sure to hit the "Save" button when you're done. Now, when colleagues click to open the file, they'll be taken to the PowerPoint editor to make quick edits and revisions.
