The 10 Best Action Movies on Netflix (Feb. 2021) Posted: 09 Feb 2021 07:48 AM PST From blockbusters to low-budget productions, from Hollywood movies to foreign films, Netflix has something for every kind of action junkie. Here are the ten best action movies you can stream on Netflix. BravenJason Momoa stars as the title character in Braven, about a logger who must protect his family from a gang of drug dealers determined to get to contraband that they've hidden inside his cabin. It's a basic setup that allows for down-and-dirty action, including Braven hurling a flaming ax at a bad guy's face. What more could you ask for? Casino RoyaleThe long-running James Bond series got a new lease on life when Daniel Craig took over the lead role for Casino Royale. Craig brings grittier energy to the veteran super-spy, and Casino Royale takes Bond back to his earliest days, stripping him of most of his elaborate gadgets and focusing on spycraft and self-contained action sequences. The Debt CollectorThe biggest star in B-movie action over the past decade or so has been English actor Scott Adkins. The Debt Collector is a great showcase for Adkins' signature blend of martial-arts prowess, intimidating screen presence, and sardonic humor. Working with director and frequent collaborator Jesse V. Johnson, Adkins plays a trained fighter who reluctantly puts his skills to use convincing deadbeats to pay what they owe to a shady underworld figure. The ForeignerJackie Chan is best known for his goofy, almost slapstick-style stunts. But The Foreigner casts him in a different kind of role as a grieving father out for revenge in an intense, grim action thriller. Pierce Brosnan stars as an Irish politician who's targeted by a Chinese immigrant restaurant owner (Chan) with specialized military skills, a man who holds the politician responsible for the terrorist bombing that killed his daughter. The GrandmasterThe real-life Chinese martial-arts master Ip Man has become a pop-culture favorite in recent years, as well as the subject of numerous movies and TV series, but only one has been directed by legendary filmmaker Wong Kar-wai. The visually stunning The Grandmaster stars Tony Leung as Ip Man as he reflects back on his life and many battles. HaywireBefore the Fast & Furious movies and The Mandalorian, Gina Carano was just an MMA fighter hoping to make the leap to the big screen. Fortunately, director Steven Soderbergh saw her potential. The prolific filmmaker cast Carano in Haywire as a former secret agent betrayed by her own agency. Soderbergh brings the same sophistication to action that he brought to his Oscar-winning dramas, playing to Carano's strengths as a soft-spoken but deadly force. The Old GuardBased on the comic book series by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez, The Old Guard is Netflix's take on the big-budget superhero movie. The film features a team of immortal warriors led by Charlize Theron's Andromache. The centuries-old heroes operate in secret until the emergence of a new immortal forces them to confront the modern world, with lots of kicking, punching, and explosions along the way. Sherlock HolmesBefore director Guy Ritchie got his hands on the legendary detective, Sherlock Holmes wasn't known as an action hero. But Ritchie and star Robert Downey Jr. turn their version of Sherlock Holmes into a Victorian-era action movie, giving the title character (and his colleague Dr. John Watson, played by Jude Law) as much prowess in hand-to-hand combat and explosives as in deductive reasoning. Total RecallArnold Schwarzenegger, the defining action star of the 1980s and '90s, takes a sci-fi turn in Total Recall, from vulgar auteur Paul Verhoeven. Based on a Philip K. Dick story, Total Recall stars Schwarzenegger as a man who gets a memory implant about a vacation to Mars and discovers that he may be a brainwashed secret agent (or is just being brainwashed to think that he is). UnknownLiam Neeson's late-career resurgence as an action hero has included several collaborations with director Jaume Collet-Serra, including Unknown. The movie stars Neeson as a doctor who is in Berlin for a conference, who wakes up to discover that his entire life seems to have been erased. He must fight against a shady conspiracy to discover who he really is and why nothing he took for granted is actually what it seems. |
How to Remove Audio from a Live Photo on iPhone Posted: 09 Feb 2021 06:22 AM PST Every time you take a Live Photo on your iPhone, your device records a short audio clip as well. For most people this is no problem, but sometimes you might not want others to hear the audio. Luckily, it's easy to disable the sound on a Live Photo before sharing. Here's how. First, open the "Photos" app on your iPhone. Navigate to the Live Photo that includes the audio you'd like to remove. Tap the photo to inspect it. While looking at the detail view of the Live Photo, tap the "Edit" button in the upper-right corner of the screen. In "Edit" mode, tap the "Live Photo" button (which looks like three concentric circles) in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. You will enter Live Photo edit mode. Tap the yellow speaker icon in the upper-left corner of the screen. This disables the audio playback for this particular Live Photo. (If the speaker icon is grey with a strike through it, the audio is already disabled.) After you tap the yellow speaker icon, the icon will change to a grey speaker icon with a strike through it, showing you that the audio for the Live Photo has been disabled. Then tap "Done." After that, the next time you play the Live Photo, you will not hear any sound. And, when you share it, the sound portion of the Live Photo will not be included. Even though you have disabled the audio for that particular photo, your iPhone keeps a copy of the original Live Photo with the audio included in case you change your mind. So if you need to get the sound back, open "Photos," tap the photo again, enter "Edit Mode," tap the "Live Photo" icon, and toggle the speaker button back on. Then the audio will be restored. |

Posted: 08 Feb 2021 10:02 AM PST Locking your Mac is the best way to secure your computer when you have to step away from it. This won't quit or interrupt any running applications, and you must type your password to get past the lock screen. Here are eight ways to lock your Mac. First, Require a Password to Unlock Your MacThere are many ways to lock your Mac. Some of these methods involve actually putting your Mac to sleep. However, this does little to protect your Mac if a password isn't required to access it again. For maximum security, we recommend you always require a password after putting your Mac in sleep mode. To password protect your Mac after it's been put in sleep mode, click the Apple icon at the top left, and then select "System Preferences." Here, click "Security & Privacy." In the "General" tab, select the checkbox next to "Require Password." Type your password, and then click the arrows next to "Require Password" to open the drop-down menu. You can then select the amount of time that must pass before a password is required again. Select "Immediately" to lock your Mac whenever you put it to sleep. If this isn't enabled, anyone can access your Mac. How to Lock Your MacWhen it comes to cybersecurity, you are the first layer of defense. It doesn't matter which of the following methods you choose to lock your Mac, as long as you choose one. As we'll cover later, make sure you also configure your Mac to automatically lock itself in case you forget. Close Your Mac's LidThe simplest way to lock your Mac is to simply close the lid. When you open it again, you'll have to type your password to access the computer and its data. Use the Keyboard ShortcutThe runner up for the simplest way to lock your Mac is via the keyboard shortcut. You can just press Command+Control+Q to lock your Mac. Click "OK" to set the new Hot Corner command. To activate it, just position your mouse in the corner of the screen you selected. Lock Your Mac Using TerminalIf you want to feel like a hacker, you can lock your Mac via the Terminal. Set Your Mac to Lock AutomaticallyYou should never leave your Mac if it's unlocked, but we all make mistakes. If you do step away from your Mac and forget to lock it, you can set it to lock automatically after it's been idle for a certain amount of time. To do this, click the Apple icon at the top left, and then select "System Preferences." If you're running macOS Big Sur or newer, click "Battery." If you're running macOS Catalina or earlier, click "Energy Saver." Under the "Battery" tab in "Energy Saver," click and drag the slider next to "Turn Display Off After" to the amount of time you prefer. You can set it anywhere from "1 minute" to "Never." Be sure to do the same under the "Power Adapter" tab. Note that if you're running macOS Big Sur, the "Battery" and "Power Adapter" tabs will be in the pane on the left. Now, if you ever forget to lock your Mac before stepping away, it will automatically lock after the amount of time you selected, whether it's plugged in or running on battery power.
