How to Use Breakout Rooms in a Microsoft Teams Meeting Posted: 09 Mar 2021 07:58 AM PST Breakout rooms—side rooms where meeting attendees can split into small groups—work for in-person meetings and video conferences. Here's how to set up and use the Microsoft Teams equivalent for virtual meetings. Create Breakout RoomsTo create breakout rooms, start a video call, then click the breakout rooms button in the toolbar of the meeting. In the "Create Breakout Rooms" panel that opens, select the number of breakout rooms you want (up to a maximum of 50), choose whether attendees will be assigned automatically or manually, and click "Create Rooms." If you chose to assign attendees automatically, you can skip the next section. Assign Attendees ManuallyIf you chose to assign attendees manually when you created your breakout rooms, click "Assign Participants" in the panel that appears on the right-hand side. Use the checkboxes to select a group of attendees you want to put into a breakout room, then click "Assign." Click on the room you want to assign the group to. Repeat this process until all attendees have been assigned to a room. Any attendees you don't assign will remain in the main meeting when you open the breakout rooms. Open the Breakout RoomsTo move attendees into the breakout rooms, you have to open them. Rooms can be opened all at once or individually. To open all the rooms at the same time, click "Start Rooms." This will open all the breakout rooms and move the attendees into them automatically. To open rooms individually, click the three-dot icon next to the room and choose "Open Room" from the menu. Attendees who are assigned to a room will stay in the main meeting until you open their room. Return Everyone to the Main MeetingThe breakout rooms will run until the meeting organizer closes them. To close all the breakout rooms at the same time, click "Close Rooms." Once the rooms are closed, the attendees will automatically be returned to the main meeting. The breakout rooms will remain available for attendees to be assigned to again later on in the meeting. |
How to Quickly Scan QR Codes on iPhone From the Control Center Posted: 09 Mar 2021 06:58 AM PST Like it or not, QR codes are everywhere. From restaurants to gas stations, they are used for all sorts of contactless transactions. Here's how to quickly scan QR codes on iPhone using a Control Center shortcut. The iPhone's Camera app lets you scan QR codes. But every time you actually want to take action (for example, opening the webpage from the QR code), you need to tap a notification. If you add a hidden QR Code control to the Control Center, the Code Scanner feature will automatically open the designated app (Mail app for email, Safari for webpages, and so on). RELATED: How to Scan QR Codes with the iPhone’s Camera App To set this up, you'll need to add the Code Scanner shortcut to the Control Center. First, open the "Settings" app. Swipe down on your home screen to use Spotlight search if you can't find the app on your smartphone. Here, choose the "Control Center" option. Scroll down and tap the "+" icon next to the "Code Scanner" option. Now, the Code Scanner control will be added to the bottom of the Control Center. It's now time to use the feature to scan a QR code. To open Control Center, swipe down from the top-right corner of your iPhone's screen. Here, tap the new Code Scanner control. This will open a dedicated QR code scanning interface. Point your iPhone's camera toward the QR code. It will be scanned after a second, and your iPhone will automatically open the designated app to complete the action. In this example, the How-To Geek website will open in the default browser (which, for us, is Chrome). Want to create your own QR code? You can generate new QR codes right on your iPhone! How to Quickly Copy Mac Screenshots to Clipboard Posted: 08 Mar 2021 09:26 AM PST You can use a simple keyboard shortcut trick on your Mac to copy any screenshot directly to your clipboard. You can then paste it anywhere on your Apple computer, including third-party applications and iMessage.
RELATED: How to Take Screenshots on a Mac When you're taking a screenshot, simply hold the Control key. For example, if you're taking a screenshot of a part of your Mac's screen, first use the Command+Shift+4 keyboard combination to enter the screenshot mode. Then, press and hold the Cntl key while you select the part of the screen that you want to capture. The captured screenshot is now in your clipboard. You can share it with someone through any messaging or sharing application on your Mac, including Messages (as shown below). Select a conversation and use the Cmd+V keyboard shortcut to paste the image in the text box. Hit the Enter key to send the screenshot. Alternatively, you can open the screenshot in Preview to edit it further. Open the Preview app, and from the "File" option in the menu bar, choose the "New From Clipboard" option. Alternatively, you can use the Cmd+N keyboard shortcut as well. The screenshot will show up in a new Preview window where you can crop, annotate, or edit it in any manner that you like. How to Insert an Image Inside of Text in Microsoft Word Posted: 08 Mar 2021 08:07 AM PST You can fill text with a color, but the feature for filling text with an image was removed in Microsoft Word 2013. However, with a little workaround, you can still do this in Word for Microsoft 365. Here's how. If you want to fill your text with an image in Word, you can't simply type the text and fill it like you could in Word 2010, or even in the latest version of PowerPoint. But you can fill the text of a SmartArt graphic with an image. RELATED: How to Get a Picture Behind Text in PowerPoint First, open the Word application. In the "Illustrations" group of the "Insert" tab, click "SmartArt." The "Choose a SmartArt Graphic" window will appear. In the left-hand pane, choose an option that provides a type of SmartArt graphic that you can type text within. We'll use "List" in this example. Next, choose the SmartArt graphic that you'd like to use from the available options within the selected tab. We'll use the "Basic Block List" SmartArt graphic. Once it's been selected, click "OK." The SmartArt graphic will now appear in the Microsoft Word document. Now, delete all but one of the items within the graphic by clicking each item and pressing the Delete key. Next, type the desired text in the remaining graphic. To better see the image inserted in the text, format your text to be larger. You can do so in the "Font" group of the "Home" tab. Here are the font specs we'll use:
This is what our text looks like now. Next, highlight the text by clicking and dragging your cursor over the text. In the "WordArt Styles" group of the "Format" tab that appears, click the "Text Fill" option. Toward the bottom of the drop-down menu that appears, click "Picture." The "Insert Pictures" window will now appear. Here, choose where you'd like to locate an image:
We'll use a stock image. Select your image from the location that you chose, then click "Insert." The text will now be filled with the image. Next, you'll need to remove the background of the SmartArt graphic. Select the box and then, in the "Shape Styles" group of the "Format" tab, click "Shape Fill." In the drop-down menu that appears, click "No Fill." The SmartArt background will now be removed, leaving only the text behind. Though not as convenient as it used to be, with this little trick, you can still insert an image inside your text. |
