How to Hide the Sidebar in Microsoft Teams Posted: 04 Feb 2021 08:07 AM PST The sidebar that shows your teams and chats in Microsoft Teams can be hidden when you don't need it. Microsoft has made changing this setting very unintuitive, but it's easy once you know where it's hiding. Having a sidebar or navigation pane on the left side of an app is perfectly normal—almost every email client has one, for example—and many apps give you the option to toggle it on or off. Microsoft Teams is no exception, but for some reason, the company made the toggle hard to find, and you can't toggle the sidebar on and off if you have a chat open. This basically means that you can toggle the sidebar on and off when you have a tab open in a channel, as long as it's not the "Posts" channel. You can't toggle the sidebar on and off if you're in a chat. To toggle the sidebar, open a tab in a Teams channel and click the two diagonal arrows found to the right of the tabs. This will hide the sidebar. To show it again, click the diagonal arrows again. A clue to Microsoft's thinking is that if you hover over the diagonal arrows, the tooltip reads "Expand Tab" if the sidebar is visible, or "Collapse Tab" if the sidebar isn't visible. Clearly, the design team was thinking more about giving extra screen space for the tab you're looking at, rather than letting you hide the toolbar just because you don't want to see it.

How to Protect Telegram Messages With a Passcode Posted: 04 Feb 2021 07:02 AM PST Telegram is great for messaging individuals and large groups. You can add an extra layer of security to Telegram using a passcode, fingerprint, or Face ID. Here's how to protect Telegram messages with a passcode on iPhone and Android. Telegram has an app-based passcode lock system. This passcode lock needs to be set up on each device individually. The passcode isn't synced between your devices, and it isn't linked to your Telegram account. If you forget the passcode, you'll need to delete and reinstall the Telegram app. You'll get all your Telegram chats back if this happens, but you will lose out on all the Secret Chats. The messages are deleted, as they aren't synced using Telegram's servers and are instead stored locally on the device. Protect Telegram Messages With a Passcode on AndroidYou can protect your Telegram app using a passcode and fingerprint on Android. To set it up, open the Telegram app on your Android smartphone, then tap the three-line menu button found in the top-left corner. Here, choose the "Settings" option. Now, select "Privacy & Security." From the "Security" section, tap "Passcode Lock." Toggle on "Passcode Lock" to enable the feature. Next, create a four-number numeric passcode. Then, enter it again to save the passcode. The passcode is now active. You will now see that the "Unlock with Fingerprint" feature is enabled by default. You can disable it if you don't want to unlock using your fingerprint. By default, Telegram only auto-locks after one hour. You can tap the "Auto-lock" option to change the time between 1 minute to 45 hours. From here, you can also disable the feature if you want. Once you're done, tap the "Done" button to save it. If you want to lock your Telegram app manually, tap the lock icon from the "Chats" screen. Now, when you open the Telegram app again, you will first see the option to unlock the app using your fingerprint. You can exit this screen and use the passcode instead if you like. Protect Telegram Messages With a Passcode on iPhoneIf you're using an iPhone, you can protect Telegram with a passcode and access the app quickly using Touch ID or Face ID (depending on your device). RELATED: How to Speed Up Face ID on Your iPhone To get started, open the Telegram app on your iPhone and go to the "Settings" tab. Now, navigate to the "Privacy and Security" section. Here, choose the "Passcode & Face ID" option (You might see different text based on your device.). From this screen, tap the "Turn Passcode On" option. Here, enter a six-digit code. Tap the "Passcode Options" button to see different passcode versions. From here, you can switch to a four-digit numeric code or a custom longer alphanumeric code. After entering your passcode, enter it once again to confirm. The passcode lock feature is now enabled. This will also automatically enable the Face ID or Touch ID unlock feature. If you want to disable either, tap the toggle next to the "Unlock with Face ID" (or "Unlock with Touch ID") option. By default, Telegram only locks the app when you have been away for one hour. To change this, tap the "Auto-Lock" option. From here, you can disable the feature or choose from a one-minute to five-hour timeline. You can also manually lock the Telegram app by tapping the lock icon from the top of the "Chats" screen. The next time you open the Telegram app, it will automatically scan your face using Face ID. If you're using Touch ID, you'll be prompted to scan your fingerprint. If these don't work, you can enter your passcode. How to Enable On/Off Toggle Labels on iPhone and iPad Posted: 04 Feb 2021 06:01 AM PST Apple's iPhone and iPad interfaces are attractive, but they can also be difficult to see for some people—especially interface elements such as switches, which change color when activated. Luckily, there's a way to add "1" and "0" on/off labels to all iOS and iPadOS switches to make them easier to see. Here's how. First, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad. In Settings, tap "Accessibility." In Accessibility, select "Display & Text Size." In "Display & Text Size," tap the switch beside "On/Off Labels" to switch it on. You'll notice that as soon as you flip this feature on, all the switches on the screen will include stylized "1" (a plain vertical line) and "0" (a circle) labels, with "1" meaning "on" and "0" meaning "off." These meet international standards of on/off switch labeling. This change applies to Apple's Settings app and any other app that uses the standard system on/off switch design, including third-party apps such as Twitter. If you need an extra visual boost to make the switches even easier to see, tap the "Increase Contrast" switch on that same page (in "Accessibility" > "Display & Text Size" settings.) When you're done, leave the Settings app. The changes will be active.

How to Use Tab Groups in Google Chrome for Android Posted: 03 Feb 2021 09:25 AM PST Depending on how you use Google Chrome, you may have 20 tabs open at a time, or you can't stand using more than 5. If you fall in the first group, Tab Groups can be useful, and they work on Android, too. Tab Groups were added to Google Chrome on the desktop in May of 2020. The feature is available on Android phones and tablets as well, and it works similarly. You can group tabs together, almost like a folder, to keep them organized. RELATED: How to Enable and Use Tab Groups in Google Chrome To use Tab Groups in Chrome for Android, you'll need version 88 or newer. The feature is automatically enabled once you have it. First, open the Chrome app on your Android smartphone or tablet, then tap the tabs icon in the top bar to view all of your open tabs. You'll see all of your tabs in a grid. To create a group, tap and hold on a tab and drag it on top of another tab. Release it when the bottom tab is highlighted. The tabs will now be in a group titled "2 Tabs." Simply tap it to open the group. If you navigate to one of these tabs, you'll see the other tabs from the group in a row across the bottom. This allows you to easily switch between the tabs in the group. Tapping the up arrow will open the tab group preview again. The "+" button will add a new tab to the group. You can remove a tab from a group and still keep it open in your main tabs. Open the group preview window, tap and hold the tab, and drag it to "Remove From Group." That's it! This is a simple trick, but it can really help keep your tabs more organized. Rather than having to hunt through a full list of tabs, you can keep a few together and hop between them easily. |
